Hummus is good. I know it is not the best opening line, but it is 1 am. and I promised myself Ill finish this post before I go to bed.
So Hummus is good..we estalblished that. But why? Millions of people eat it..they cant be that wrong 🙂 But, it is super easy to make, you barely need any ingredients to it, it is healthy, and quite filling. And since it does not have a strong flavour it goes well with everything, so you can upgrade it, and season it with almost anything. The possibilities are pretty much endless. For my first Hummus post ill share my 5 favourite ones with you. The 5 is really just 4 as im going to start with the original version 🙂
Basic
The Hummus.. meaning chickpeas, is made out of guess what? Chickpeas and tahini, add some lemon juice, garlic loves, bit of olive oil, salt and pepper. Blend it, and it is ready! Most recipes say saok the chickpeas over night, and cook them after. But since im usually lazy, I used canned chickpeas..just make sure you drain them.
Tahini can be found in almost all supermarkets, delis or markets..even in Hungary, so should not be a challange to find them..if not…All you need is a good headnful of sesame seeds, olive oil and a blender. Toast the seeds and blend them till smooth with the olive oil.
So for a serving for 2-3 people I usually use 1 can of chickpeas, about 200 g, 100 g of tahini, 1 lemon.
Basic Ingredients:
- Chickpeas
- lemon juice
- tahini
- salt and pepper
- garlic
- olive oil
Spinach Hummus
No special skills needed for this upgrade at all. All you need is a big handful of fresh spinach leaves, chop them up and blend them with your basic hummus. I usually add more garlic, as spinach loves garlic, and pepper.
Spinach Ingredients
- basic hummus
- spinach leaves
- lots of garlic
- white black and green pepper
- bit of olive oil
Curry Mango Hummus
Take 1 mango, peel the skinn off, and dice it up. You can also use frozen mango, a small handful, it works as well. put them in a frying pan, and over medium heat grill them a little, with some olive oil, and curry powder. Blend it with the basic hummus.

Chili Pepper Hummus
Here you going to need about 2 red bell peppers. Put them to the oven with some salt, for abouy 180C till the skin completely turns black. While still warm, remove the skin, the seeds, and blend the pepper with your basic hummus. Add some chilipowder, a juice of 1 lime. Depending on your taste, if you really like spicy things add same cayenne pepper sometimes i add some sriracha in the mix as well.

Beetroot Hummus
You going to need 1 bigger or 2 smaller beets. I know cooking them takes a bit of time, but it is worth it.
So cook the beets, peel off the skin. Dice them up into medium cubes and toast them in a frying pan with some olive oil, a tiny bit of sugar and a bit of balsamic vinegar. lend them with your basic hummus with some wallnuts.
